Cookie Notice – Squid Chat
Version: 1.0
Updated: April 2026
This Cookie Notice describes how we use cookies and similar technologies in our Squid Chat app (the ”Service”). The Service is available through our mobile app and our web app.
what are cookies?
A cookie is a small text file which is stored on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website or use an app. There are also other similar technologies used to collect information from or store information on your device, for example pixels (transparent images), local storage (that can be used to store information on your device or in the browser) and software development kits (embedded code in an app which provides specific functionality).
Both cookies and similar technologies are – to keep it simple – referred to “cookies” in this Cookie Notice.
Types of cookies
There are two types of cookies depending on how long the cookie is stored on your device:
- Session cookies are stored temporarily on your device and are deleted when you close your browser or the app.
- Persistent cookies are stored on your device for a specific period until they expire or until deleted.
For more information on how long cookies are stored on your device, please see our cookie table.
Moreover, there are two types of cookies depending on who sets the cookie on your device:
- First-party cookies are set by the website or app that you are using.
- Third-party cookies are set by a different external domain than the website or app than you are using.
[In our Service, we only use first-party cookies.]
cookies and personal data
Certain cookies collect and store personal data about you. For more information on our processing of your personal data, please see our Privacy Notice.
Cookies used
Strictly necessary (essential) cookies
We use strictly necessary (essential) cookies to ensure that the Service operate properly. The cookies support basic functionality such as user authentication, network management and security. Your consent is not needed for the use of strictly necessary (essential) cookies.
Functional (preference) cookies
Functional (preference) cookies are used to remember user preferences and to provide additional functionality and personalisation, for example store language settings and user interface preferences. If you disable these cookies, certain functionality may not be available, or you will receive a less personalised experience when using the Service.
Performance (analytics) cookies
Performance (analytics) cookies are used to collect information about how our users interact with the Service, such as feature usage, session duration and crash reports. We use this information to better understand how our Service is used to be able to improve its performance, usability and functionality to provide an even better user experience.
Targeting (marketing) cookies
Targeting (marketing) cookies are used to track user activity to deliver personalised advertising and to measure the effectiveness of marketing campaigns. They are also used to share information with advertising partners, such as device identifiers.
For more information about the cookies that we use in the Service, please see our cookie table.
cookie preferences
Except for strictly necessary (essential) cookies, which are needed for the Service to work properly, cookies will only be placed on your device if you give your consent. You will be asked to set your cookie preferences the first time you access the Service, and your preferences will be stored for twelve (12) months. After this period, we will ask for your consent to the use of non-essential cookies again.
You can also change your cookie preferences at any time by adjusting your cookie settings.
Please note that if you do not consent to the use of non-essential cookies in the Service it can impact your experience when using the Service and our ability to improve the Service for you. For example, without your consent certain functionality may not be available or you may need to enter your preferences in the Service again when you use the Service next time.
Updates to this Cookie Notice
We regularly update this Cookie Notice to ensure that it reflects the cookies that we use. At the top, you can see when this Cookie Notice was last updated.
